BYD showcased its high-end brand Tengshi and personalized brand Fangchengbao, showcasing China's new energy vehicles to the world

Event Overview

On July 10, 2025, the Goodwood Festival of Speed, a world-renowned automotive cultural event, grandly opened at Goodwood House in West Sussex, England. Themed "A Century-Long Dialogue Between Internal Combustion Engines and Electric Drive," this year's event attracted 156 automotive brands from 38 countries. BYD, a Chinese brand participating for the second consecutive year, showcased three models from its premium brand, DENZA, and its personalized brand, FANG CHENG BAO, in the main exhibition area. The Z9 GT coupe was even invited to participate in the iconic 1.6-kilometer hill climb, showcasing the technological prowess and design aesthetics of Chinese new energy vehicles to a global audience. On the first day of the show, Prince Andrew, Duke of York, visited the BYD booth to experience the Leopard 5's "tank turn" feature.

Core Technology Highlights

DENZA Brand Technological Breakthroughs

The Z9 GT pure electric GT coupe: Equipped with the world's first CTB pure electric plug-in hybrid dual platform, its battery pack boasts an energy density of 265Wh/kg. Based on Yisanfang technology, the D9 achieves millisecond-level coordinated control of three motors. Its iconic "compass turn" demonstration garnered coverage from media outlets such as Top Gear. This technology, utilizing a single motor on the front axle and dual motors on the rear axle, enables a minimum turning circle of 5.3 meters, improving maneuverability by 40% compared to traditional four-wheel steering systems.

The D9 flagship MPV features a 5G smart cockpit and a full-scenario voice interaction system. Its second-row seats feature 18-way power adjustment and graphene-inspired heating. The "Conference Room Mode" feature, demonstrated on-site, automatically adjusts the seating layout and multimedia system, showcasing the maturity of Chinese brands in the luxury segment.

Fangcheng Leopard Brand Debut

The Leopard 5 Super Hybrid SUV utilizes the DMO electric off-road platform (the world's first electric-powered city-off-road hybrid architecture). Its longitudinally mounted 1.5T engine boasts a thermal efficiency of 41%. Combined with the Yunni-P intelligent hydraulic body control system, the vehicle demonstrated remarkable adaptability during the hill climb. Powered by dual front and rear electric motors (combined power of 505kW), it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds. For maneuverability, it features three differential locks and a maximum wading depth of 700mm, successfully conquering the show's famous "Forest Break" obstacle course.

Strategic Significance

Cultural Outreach: The Denza's Goodwood Limited Edition silver car sticker, designed in collaboration with the Royal Academy of Arts, blends elements from the Song Dynasty landscape painting "A Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains" with the star trails of the Greenwich Observatory, becoming one of the most Instagrammed visuals of the show.

Technical Support: BYD's three models demonstrate China's global leadership in electrification (with a 15% improvement in energy efficiency for the CTB/DMO platform) and intelligence (with a Yunni system response speed of 10ms). Germany's Auto Motor und Sport magazine praised it as "redefining the performance standard for the electric age."

Market Impact: As of June 2025, the Leopard 5 had delivered a cumulative 81,744 units worldwide, achieving the highest market share in the hardcore off-road SUV segment priced above €40,000 (according to J.D. Power data), with a 27% share in Europe. During the exhibition, BYD announced a strategic partnership with the British dealer group Pendragon, with plans to establish 300 dedicated service centers across Europe by 2026.
