Product Positioning
The Yuan UP (known as the ATTO 2 in the overseas version) is BYD's first A0-segment pure electric SUV based on the e-Platform 3.0. It features CTB battery integration technology, which improves space utilization by 20% through a body-battery-pack integrated design. Its blade battery utilizes a lithium iron phosphate chemistry, providing more stable thermal management in tropical environments. With a NEDC range of 401km (380km WLTP), it meets commuting needs between cities on the east and west coasts of Peninsular Malaysia (e.g., Kuala Lumpur to Penang, approximately 350km).
The Malaysian version is specially optimized for tropical climates: standard heat pump air conditioning reduces high-temperature cooling energy consumption by 15%, 50W wireless fast charging is compatible with major local mobile phone models, and the vehicle's system comes pre-installed with localized Grab ride-hailing and Waze navigation apps.

Channel Layout
The first 15 dealerships are located in key business districts. The Kuala Lumpur flagship store is equipped with an AR virtual test drive system, and the Penang showroom is partnered with the popular local coffee brand "Kopi Hainan." BYD Southeast Asia President Li Ke announced plans to expand to 30 stores by 2025, covering emerging markets in East Malaysia, such as Sabah and Sarawak.
The charging network is being built on a dual-track strategy: First, it is collaborating with Sime Darby to build 200 180kW supercharging stations (charging to 80% in 20 minutes), while secondly, it is integrating with ChargeSNAP's existing network of 1,200 slow-charging stations.
Market Strategy
The pricing strategy is precisely targeted: starting at RM98,800 (approximately RMB 152,000), it offers a price premium compared to the comparable fuel-powered HR-V (RM104,000), coupled with the government's EV tax exemption policy, which saves approximately 9% in purchase tax. Financing options include: ① 3 years of free maintenance with full purchase price; ② Battery leasing plan (RM20,000 off the vehicle price, monthly payments of RM399, including an 8-year/160,000 km warranty); and ③ A 0-down payment plan exclusively for civil servants.
Industry Impact
Competitive Benchmarking: The Yuan UP offers a differentiated advantage in the RM100,000-150,000 ringgit price range. Compared to the Nezha V (priced at RM89,900 but with a range of only 301 km), the Yuan UP commands a premium with its longer range and CTB technology. Compared to the Tesla Model Y (approximately RM145,000 after tax exemptions), the Yuan UP focuses on high value, with rear legroom (890 mm) actually surpassing the Model Y's (850 mm).
Capacity Plan: BYD's joint venture with Malaysia's DFSK has received approval from MIDA. With an initial investment of RM1.2 billion, the joint venture is expected to achieve a 60% localization rate (including battery pack assembly) upon commencement of production in 2026. Long-term plans include exports to ASEAN markets such as Indonesia and Thailand.
Data Extension:
According to the Malaysian Automotive Institute (MAI), EV market share reached 8.7% in the first half of 2025, with the government targeting a 38% share by 2030.
Pre-sale orders for the Yuan UP have exceeded 2,300, with 35% coming from ride-hailing operators (data as of July 23).
